Before Petals by Eithar, a bride in Jordan who wanted to keep her bouquet had two options: watch it dry out in a vase, or send it abroad and hope it survived the journey. There was no studio in the country doing this work.
We opened in 2021 as the first studio to bring flower preservation to Jordan as a craft. We press bouquets under glass, seal blooms in 3D, and frame each piece by hand. Since then we have preserved more than 5,000 bouquets.
Why it had to start from scratch
Flower preservation is not drying flowers. It is a slow, technical process where almost everything can go wrong: colour turns brown, petals go translucent, moisture creeps back in months later and ruins a finished frame.
None of that knowledge existed locally. There was no supplier to call, no technician to ask, and no local standard for what a good result even looked like. Every part of the method had to be built and tested here: on Jordan’s climate, on the flowers that actually appear in Jordanian bouquets, and on the humidity that makes summer in Amman its own problem.
That is why our timeline is 4 to 6 months rather than a few weeks. The pressing and drying stages are what determine whether a piece still looks right in ten years, and they cannot be rushed.
Part of a global preservation community
Being first locally does not mean working alone. We are part of an international community of flower preservation artists, the people worldwide who do this same specialised work.
That connection matters for practical reasons. Techniques in this field are still developing, and they are shared between studios rather than taught in any formal school: how to handle a flower that resists pressing, which materials stay stable over years, how other artists solve problems we are seeing for the first time. Being in that conversation means the work in our Amman studio is measured against how it is done everywhere else, not just against itself.
